Math Anxiety?
For over 35 years, Professors Jack Weiner and Hoshang Pesotan of the University of Guelph have helped thousands of students through varying degrees of their own math anxiety. They know that a large part of getting through the fear of math is having a solid foundation in high school math concepts. The Mathematics Post-Secondary Preparedness Package (we call it the MP3) will help anyone prepare for courses requiring an understanding of high school math concepts.
The MP3 includes 9 problem sets covering topics from Basic Numeracy to Exponents and Logarithms. Complete solutions are provided, along with descriptions of common errors and links to “Great Websites for More Detail”—everything needed to clear the math mental cobwebs before classes begin.
Joshua Morlog, high school math teacher and a former student of Jack’s said this about the MP3:
“[Students] shouldn’t be so darned afraid of math, nor about failing…but they do need to know about the problems that are heading their way. I think the [MP3] content is great. There are a lot of topics that get glossed over or even taken for granted in high school and it’s important to remember even the smallest trig or absolute value problem, because they are very important later. I know that my students will love the MP3.”
The MP3 is Studentawards’ first publication and has been made possible through generous support of Maplesoft™. The MP3 content was developed with input from Studentawards members and written by award-winning Professor Jack Weiner and Professor Emeritus Hosh Pesotan (with superb proofing by University of Guelph mathematics majors George Hutchinson and Sylvia Nguyen). They’ve created an amazing bridge between high school and college/university math.
