This is another volume of short stories in our series of Vincent Starrett’s uncollected writings. Vincent Starrett 1886-1974 One of the great literary historians and bookmen of our time, Starrett wrote more than 50 volumes of poetry, literary essays, bibliographies, mystery stories and detective novels. He was a crime reporter for the Chicago Daily News from 1906-17, and later a literary columnist for the Chicago Tribune, 1942-1968. He was a long-time member of the Mystery Writers of America; recipient of its first “Grand Master of Mystery” award (1957) and its president in 1961. He is best known for such books as his classic The Private Life of Sherlock Holmes, Books alive, Bookman’s Holiday, and many others. Peter Ruber Is a computer journalist and author of The Last Bookman, a 1968 biography of Vincent Starrett. He is editing the _25-volume Vincent Starrett Memorial Library Series. Of these, seventeen will be devoted to previously uncollected and unpublished material he has collected over the last thirty-five years. Ruber is also editing a series of new collections from the prolific pen of Wisconsin writer August Derleth.
